Genesis 38:
Judah's son Er is evil, and the Lord killed him. Judah's second son refuses to obey, and is also killed.
Psalm 39:
I will not sin in what I say. I will hold my tongue around the ungodly.
Proverbs 7:
Don't wander down the wayward path.
Analysis:
I don't have a lot to say today. I will be the first to admit that I do not understand everything that God has written down and passed on to us. I think this is on purpose. We can't possibly understand everything that God know. It's impossible. He is omniscient (all-knowing). He is all-powerful. He is I Am That I Am.
It is chapters like Genesis 38 that people point to, and say this is clearly a man made text that was used to explain tribal warfare, etc. I do not believe this. I believe that Judah and Er were real people. I believe that Er was evil, and God destroyed him. I have no idea what he did. I have no idea why he was evil. I know he offended God so much, that God could not let him live on. I believe that God gave him chances to redeem himself, and I believe that he did not.
I do know this. We can watch our words, and that will help the ungodly to see that we are different. I know we can follow the straight and narrow, and that God will always be there for us.
I know this sounds contradictory. Er was killed by God, but God is always there for us? I am not God. I do not understand all His ways. I think that God gives us all chances to repent and turn to Him. I know that not everyone does this. My God is a loving God, but he is also a God of Holiness. I do not know how many chances God give us.
I do know this. We can watch our words, and that will help the ungodly to see that we are different. I know we can follow the straight and narrow, and that God will always be there for us.
